Hello Again!

Wow....I can't believe its been so long since I've posted. Nothing has really been going on around here.  I actually have been falling asleep every night this week by 9pm!  I had two cups of coffe tonight so I'll be up for a while yet!

We were expecting some sort of snow last night into today and tonight but nothing has happened yet.  I'm not complaining or anything.  As far as I'm concerned it can be summer now.  I promise I won't complain when its 80 degrees and the a/c still isn't installed ;)

Tonight I had a really fun night out with some moms from my MOPS group.  If any of you have children ages 0-kindergarten check them out, see if there is one in your area or even see about starting one if there isn't!  Its a christian based moms group, MOPS stands for Mothers of Preschoolers.  The website is http://www.mops.org/.  My group meets twice a month, sometimes we have speakers, play games, have a creative activity whatever really.  I have meet some really great women in the 4 years I've been apart of the group.  Tonight we had a mom's night out at the church, a potluck.  It was nice to have a chance to sit around and catch up with everyone and play some games, I really needed it!

Last night Cole decided my cell phone needed washed off.  So he decided to dunk it in the toilet.  I wasn't so much concerned about the gross factor just the fact that my phone was wet.  I tried all the tricks, I took the battery off, put everything in a bowl of uncooked rice and Ryan even put it downstairs where its warmer.  It still doesn't work.  :::sigh:::  Luckily my contract is up and I can get a new phone.  Whenever I do I'll have to be sure to keep it up from certain little people!

Where did the weekend go???

I can't believe its Sunday already...why does the weekend fly by in the blink of an eye but the week drags on and on and on....

It was a semi eventful weekend...well  I guess not really eventful but...well let's just say I didn't want to be here this weekend.

As those of you who know us know, we have 8 million chickens...ok not really 8 million but it seems like it sometimes.  I honestly don't know how many we have because I refuse to have anything to do with them.  Ryan thinks we have somewhere around 50 +.  Anyway Ryan has been saying for awhile now he would like to....kill some of them so we have chicken to eat.  We had tried finding some places that would process them but couldn't find any locally enough.  He had mentioned something to his dad at one point or another and he said he'd help him do it himself.  So, can you tell yet what was going on at my house this weekend???  Yeah.  Blah. I don't know why it bothers me so much.  It just does, I guess because the chicken I buy at the grocery store, I never see out in the field eating and 'know' them.  Though from what I've been reading I'd rather eat my chickens than the one at the grocery store.  I just watched an Oprah epidsode the other day when she was discussing the movie Food, Inc. Its sad how those chickens are raised.  At least mine had a decent chicken life, they knew the sun and they lived a lot longer then they normally would have.  Now to just get up enough courage to cook them....

So bright and early Saturday morning I left with my mom and the boys' for a day long shopping trip.  I was pretty excited about it even though it was going to be more of a window shopping day for me.  But it would be nice to go and be out all day.  First we went to Toys R Us so my mom could get a new booster seat for Logan, then we headed over to the mall to get Logan a new bookbag because his broke.  We no sooner stepped foot into the mall and Logan starts complaining that his ear hurts.  He was in full out tears until we walked halfway down the mall.  We left there and grabbed lunch and medicine for Logan and headed to my moms house for the afternoon.  I had to make a quick detour to my house to grab my knitting though.  I had never been so afraid to go to my own house.  I had all of these terrible horror movie images in my head.  I'm not really sure what I thought they would be doing.  It really wasn't that bad though.  When we pulled in they were plucking feathers over a garbage can but it didn't really bother me.  I didn't see any blood or guts so all was good.

I would like to spend an afternoon every week at my moms house from now on.  Do you know how nice it is to be able to sit back, knit and watch a movie?  How comes my kids are not up my butt there?  I guess its always more fun at Grandmas...While there I finally got to watch The Time Traveler's Wife.  It was OK.  I couldn't pay complete attention to it with the kids there but I think the book was better.  Its been awhile since I read it but it seemed like they left alot out.

While there I started on a new knitting project.   I decided to finally make a pair of socks.  A friend of mine from my knit group picked me up a pair of addi 8" circular needles.  They are so friggin cute!!  They were a little weird at first but I love them, so much easier than messing with dpn's.  For my first pair of socks I decided to make monkey socks from knitty.  So far so good, my only complaint is when I'm not working on them, my stitches come off the needles.  I'm using Dream in Color Smooshy Sock Yarn - Lunar Zazzle.  Its not a color I would normally pick but I'm really liking it.  I'm also almost ready to start the border on my Multnomah shawl.  I'm trying to decide if I want to make it bigger than the pattern calls for and I think I am.  I have a huge ball of the yarn left so why not.

So that was about it for our weekend.  Today was just a lazy day at home while Ryan took care of more chickens.  I now have 8 fresh chickens in my freezer.  At least I know what to scratch off my grocery list!  I think he'd kill me if I walked in with a grocery store chicken!!

Is it Friday Yet?

Today has not been a very good day for me....

It started when I got up this morning and there was a huge puddle of water on the kitchen floor.  Nothing major is wrong our kitchen faucet needs replaced because it drips.  Well the drip is getting pretty bad. I had left a pot in the sink over night soaking and the only thing I can think is it dripped so much that it overflowed onto the floor.  Though when I asked Ryan about it tonight he said there wasn't any water on the floor when he left.  So maybe the cat knocked something over.  We're just going with that for now.

After I got Logan on the bus, Cole and I had to go to the church and help set up for our MOPS meeting tomorrow.  I had my Bella's mittens on.  When I went to get Cole out of his carseat, I snagged the one mitten on the chest clip of his seat.  Now there is a huge pull in the top of the mitten.    I was so upset I could have sat in the parking lot and cried.  I'm hoping that my friend Heather can fix it friday when I go to knit group.  I really don't want to have to undo it and reknit any part of it.  UGH!! It makes me sick thinking about it...

Then I went to work after I got back from setup.  I work M-W-F and every other Saturday.  It has been a crazy crazy week there.  The phones have been ringing off the hook and its just been busy. Too busy.  During a lull in the day I was zoning out checking things out online.  Luckily, my sil said to me ...'ummm...don't you have to get Logan?'  I totally forgot!!  Good thing I don't have far to go from work to the bus stop, I would feel like crap if he'd have to ride the bus back to school because I forgot to get him!!

I'm just ready for bed.  Ryan is currently downstairs trying to get Cole to sleep for me while I hang out with Logan upstairs and watch some of the olympics.  I'm trying to get Cole to stop nursing before bed and its been a battle.  He will go to sleep fine for anyone but me.  With me he HAS to nurse to sleep.  Hopefully it doesn't take to long to break....

Well it seems quiet down there.  Maybe I'll go have a glass of wine before bed...Night!!

Today was the first day we had that was back to normal.  No snow days, no 2 hour delays, no holidays & best of all Ryan was back to work...woohoo!!  It was a little hard getting up this morning knowing I alone had to get both boys fed and dressed and out to the bus stop.  It is so easy to get used to Ryan being home and helping get all of that done....but we did it and I survived!

I had a rather productive day getting the house put back to normal, cleaned and some laundry done.  Though it made me realize even more I NEED to get this house organized and decluttered.  We just have so much STUFF.  We live in a 3 bedroom farmhouse but the third bedroom in currently under construction and has been for awhile now.  For the time being the boys 'share' a room and I use the term share rather loosely.  The problem is Cole has not slept in his crib one time in his 2 years.  In the beginning he slept in our room next to the bed in a bassinett.  Then over time and I don't really remember how it happened, he started sleeping downstairs in his playpen of course either Ryan or the both of us sleep down there with him.  Its getting old real fast.  The problem is now he REFUSES to even be put in his crib in his room.  I've tried everything.  I wait until he is fast asleep and gently carry him upstairs.  Nope.  As soon as I hit the second step he's wide awake screaming.  When normally he could be sleeping downstairs, the tv's blaring, dogs barking, phones ringing and he wouldn't even blink.  Its like he KNOWS where he's going.  I hate to let him in his crib and CIO just because Logan is in the same room and he needs to get up in the morning for school.  I was discussing this issue with my sil today and she's even at a loss.  She offered up her kids' toddler bed though.  We may have to take her up on that for when the boys finally have their own rooms.  Then again maybe not.  Do you think an 18 year old will fit in a toddler bed?  ;)

Anyway, so yeah the other thing about old farmhouses no closets.  Well, we do sort of but they are in the area that is currently under construction so who knows when I will be able to properly use them.  We have no closets downstairs.  So I'm always at a loss as to what to do with coats, shoes, hats that sort of thing.  Then there are the toys, oh god the toys!!!  I don't think I'll ever get away from them.  They currently take over my living room and the enclosed front porch.  I have grand plans for an unfinished area at the top of the stairs but again by the time that's all finished I don't think a 22 year old and an 18 year old will really care what I do with their matchbox collection and spongebob stuff.  I could be wrong though, my 31 year old husbands He Man stuff is currently in my attic but shhhh...don't tell him I told ya, he'd be mad.  ;)

Tonight I went to a program at school with Logan.  As I mentioned in a previous post (I think)  he was placed in all day K after Christmas break.  In our district K is still only half day but they started a new program where if a child needs extra help they can go all day.  He still is in the same morning class and then goes across the hall to a different teacher and finishes the day out there.  So tonight they had a workshop to help your child learn how to read more efficently.  It was interesting. I was at a loss on how to help him, I'm not a very good teacher, if I know how to do something I just know, I don't know the steps to show you how to do it.   They showed us three different games to play and a few websites that offer reading centered games as well.  Hopefully it will help him and he won't continue to have problems in school, I don't want him to start hating it too early.

I think that is all for tonight.  Everyone is finally asleep and I finally get some uninterrupted knitting time!!

Happy Valentine's Day!!!

Today was Valentine's Day.  Ryan and I really didn't do anything, a few years ago we started the tradition of buying 'special' food and having a nice dinner at home.  It probably started when Logan was a baby and we've just kept it up.  Its actually easier and cheaper than going out.  At least I think so anyway.  We don't have to find a sitter, we don't have to wait and wait and wait to get in somewhere and did I mention its cheaper??   We had our special Valentine's dinner last night.  On the menu was NY strip steaks, shrimp, clams and super yummy jumbo lump crabcakes.  Then we had ice cream sundaes for dessert.  It was REALLY good.

This morning I decided to make a special valentines day breakfast for my boys.  I thought I had a heart shaped pancake mold but I couldn't find it...so instead I just made pink pancakes with whipped cream. The boys also had their vday gifts waiting for them before we ate.

I didn't really get them much this year, they honestly don't need it.  Besides its Valentine's Day what more could they want than candy?  Ryan got me the obligitory box of chocolates, a card and an itunes gift card which I needed!  I don't want to charge my d/l's on my cc anymore (I'll get myself in trouble that way).  Since I got this  Apple iPod touch 8 GB (3rd Generation) NEWEST MODEL for Christmas I can't stop downloading songs and audiobooks.

After breakfast Ryan did the cleanup (yay!) and Mac and I layed down for a nap.  It was rather nice considering Cole had been up since 5:30am.  I love sundays for that reason, just lounging around and taking afternoon (midmorning?) naps.  Cole even eventually went to sleep as well.

After we woke up we just sort of lounged around, the boys played, Ryan watched the Daytona 500 and I got to sit and work on knitting (another yay!!) I am currently working on this

It is the Multnomah shawl which can be found on http://www.ravelry.com/.  If you are a knitter or crocheter and you are NOT on ravelry yet...GO NOW!  Its an amazing place full of thousands of patterns, forums and friends its great!

That was about it for our relaxing Valentine's Day.  Logan has off school tomorrow for President's Day and of course they are calling for more friggin snow.  I'm ready to move...seriously.  I'm hoping and praying it doesn't amount to much!

That's all for now...more tomorrow!

Finally, an intro....

:::sigh:::

Today was our second snow day. Its not so 'fun' anymore. I'm ready to get back into the swing of things. I can't stand sitting at home. Don't get me wrong there are a million things I should have been doing today but I just didn't feel like doing any of them.

We really didn't even do anything 'fun'. Honestly it seemed like all I got done doing today was preparing meals, washing dishes, preparing meals, washing dishes, preparing meals...you get the picture. It seems like all we get done doing is EATING!

I guess I never really gave those of you who don't already know us (if there are any) any background info on us.

My name is Kim and I've been married to Ryan for the past 8 years, though we've been together since I was 16 and him 17. Crazy, huh? Yeah I know. Though I can't imagine being married to anyone else..well, maybe Kenny Chesney but well yeah don't think that's gonna happen. ;) (Kenny, if you're out there, call me ;))

We have two boys. First there is Logan, the 6 year old. He just started Kindergarten and he loves it. Thankfully. He just got put in all day school after Christmas break. I was a little mad at first and worried. But he seems to be doing well now. Though I didn't think he was doing all that bad before, I think they expect SO much out of kids now at such a younger age. But whatever that's a post for a different day....he's my laid back kid, doesn't really let anything bother him. He can be silly and crazy and totally not as quiet/shy as his dad and I can be. Not really sure where he gets his outgoing nature from. He loves spongebob, icarly and video games.

Finally there is Cole, the 2 year old. Oh boy...where do I start with Cole? He is completely the opposite from Logan in every way. While Logan was the easiest baby & toddler in the world Cole is/was not. He is a crazy, wild BOY. He's full of energy and is usually running wild through the house or jumping off the couch. Cole is also a total mommy's boy he can't stay away from me. He loves Spongebob, dinos and any kind of heavy equipment/tractors.

We have a crazy house full here. I think though we are finished having anymore kids. I think one more would send me over the edge. Along with the people in the house we also have two dogs, Mac, who is SUPPOSED to be an American Bulldog/Hounddog mix I don't really think he is. He's basically just a ginourmous dog.

Then there is Ryan and I's first baby, Buddy, he's our daschund, we got him before we were married and he's spoiled rotten.

Then Billy, the cat. He is Logan's cat and he is the weirdest, friendliest cat I have ever had. Normal cats run and hide from kids no matter how long they have been around them (at least all of mine did!) not Bill. HE comes looking for the kids. He even lets Cole hold him. Crazy cat.

Whenever I have spare time (ha!) I like to read though I haven't been reading anything lately. Though I do love the Sookie Stackhouse series and Twilight ;) I also really like to knit. I was on a knitting 'break' because I just couldn't get into anything I was making. Now though I can't knit enough and its sort of hard to do when a 2 year old feels the need to walk off with the ball of yarn attached to my project. During this fabulous snow break I finally got my "Bella's Mittens" done. I love, love, love them! Its a pattern I found on Ravelry that is a take off of a pair of mittens the character Bella wears in the movie Twilight and I saw a glimpse of them in New Moon as well.

I hope to use this blog to 'show off' some of my finished projects, maybe that will help me get more things finished!

snow snow go away...

This is what it looked like this morning when we got up....yeah, I'm not too happy with it right now. We had about 18" on the ground from this past weekends storm and we are getting about the same amount again from last night to tonight. I don't know if I've ever seen snow like this before...

Though it has been nice to sort of just kick back with the boys and do fun things. I'm not to worried about cleaning, getting caught up with things. I decided if R and L both get a snow day from work and school, why don't I?

So this morning we made smoothies for breakfast.

They were a big hit with L & C. L had been bugging me for awhile to make them, on two of L & C's fave shows the characters go to a smoothie shop to hang out. I think that's what started the smoothie craze in my house. Regardless of why he wanted me to make them, I'm glad we did, it was fun and they were really good. I can just imagine making them and drinking them on a nice summer day...ahhh summer...

Anyway...after we cleaned up from that, we gathered up our snow gear and headed outside for awhile. C wasn't crazy about it. L on the other hand had a good time. I think we only lasted out there for 20 minutes but that was long considering how windy it was!

Hello out there....

Well I have been wanting to start a blog for awhile. I finally sat down and decided to do it. I hope to keep up with this everyday and document the weird, funny, silly and crazy things my kids seem to do throughout the day. Maybe it will help me slow down and live in the moment more often and not miss all the fun things my kids do.
